RESOURCES
To complete all the requirements in this manual the Scout will need:

  • Bible (New American translation)
  • Catechism of the Catholic Church (available on-line or in hard copy)
  • copies of the Rites of Baptism, Ordination, Marriage, Anointing of the Sick (download from NCCS website: www.NCCS-bsa.org

On numerous occasions throughout the program he will be asked to read and reflect on a scripture passage. He may do this by locating the passage in his Bible, or, with his parent’s permission, by reading or listening to the passage on line. The web site of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (www.usccb.org) makes this easy to do. From the home page, click on the word “Readings” on the ribbon that runs across the top of the page and it will take him to a page where he can choose Audio, Text, or Reflections. By clicking on a calendar date, he can choose which reading he wants to hear, read, or watch a reflection about. It is usually best if he reads or listens the passage first, then listens to the reflection.

To access an electronic copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church it is easiest to use the Vatican web site: http://www.vatican.va  Choose the English language icon on the home page. Then type the word “Catechism” into the Search function on the upper right-hand side of that page and it will take you to the index. All the Catechism citations used in this manual are taken from Section Two: Celebration of the Christian Mystery.
